bedroom shutters and door sconces…

I finally got around to changing the guest bedroom a bit.  the bedding is rachel ashwell, and the ruffled dust ruffle is a new find.

we still haven’t added french doors to this closet yet, so, I hung a couple of sheets up.  to the left of the closets, I brought in an old rusty iron gate, from my garden.

on the window seat, my husband built wood shutters and added old glass doorknobs. this idea was inspired by laurie at heaven’s walk—hers are pink!

they darken the room- perfect for a nap:)

he also, used 2 more of my closet doors, and added crystal sconces to them, for a romantic glow in the room.

and I made a couple of simple wreaths to hang on them.

then, I cut out some corbels, (using a scroll saw), for a shelf above the window.

and I painted dollar store salt and pepper shakers to hold some paper roses—a pinterest idea.

the room is almost done.  I have a couple more projects to do.

I’ll be back after thanksgiving, so I want to wish everyone a wonderful holiday!

rose stocking and free chalkboard tags…

this christmas, I’m using lots of rolled fabric roses.  you saw them on my vintage mirror, in my last post.  I did some sewing and made a new stocking.

it’s trimmed in lace and 5 roses.  (there are some on the fireplace banner, too)

I added some roses on a ruffled shirt that hides ugly bose speakers.

I plan on using the roses on gift packages, along with these cute chalkboard tags by lia griffith. I pinned these printables on to my christmas board, and thought I’d share the link to download them.
they are set up so you can personalize the names, too.  you can find the free download here.  and be sure to check out the other great freebies lia griffith has to offer.

todays charming blog is moments like these:)
have a great week, everyone!

vintage dresser and mirror…

I gave my old blue and cream dresser a makeover.  the middle drawer didn’t glide well, so, I took it out and my husband added a shelf in it’s place.

I ruffled some rose printed fabric, and just hot glued it to the opening.  (I first saw this ruffled drawer idea over at chateau de fleur.)

I removed the glass knobs on the bottom drawer and added a strip of fabric, tying it in a bow, for the handle.  I liked it before, and I love it now.

my second project was to rub-on phrases, randomly, to this little $9 mirror,

and then gave it a paint job and add fabric roses to hide the missing trim piece.

screen door corner cabinet…

this project uses my old screen door.  it’s been sitting in this corner with the french chandelier hanging on it… and I thought it would make a great corner cabinet.

my son gave us several doors last year—I think they were bi-fold closet doors.

I pulled my husband away from the kitchen re-do to put this cabinet together.  he used two of the doors and one 1”x6”, to make the cabinet base.  the doors came with hinges, so, all he needed was some screws and wood glue…and about 45 minutes.

after xmas, he’ll add some shelves, but, for now, it’s fine without them.

fyi-for the last few months, my kroger floral dept. has been marking down roses.  today, I found these 12 beauties for $1.99!  go check out your kroger!

that’s all for today—enjoy the rest of the weekend!
