everywhere a sign…

I made a few signs with my silhouette last week.  with the silhouette, you have two basic ways to do signs.

one way is to simply cut vinyl letters and add them to the wood—fast and easy, but you can’t sand the letters. I did that method on this sign.

on these signs, I used the second method.  cut a stencil, then, paint and sand the letters.

here’s my barely decorated front porch.  the wreath sign is huge—3’.

not perfect, but, I’ve got a garage full of scrap boards to practice on:)

and remember this sign from last year?

when I pulled off the vinyl letters, to re-do it, I got a chippy weathered look that I didn’t expect.

today’s charming blog is sweet vintage of mine!

wishing everyone a wonderful christmas!

  1. Love your signs, especially that last one, Lynn. Sometimes surprises are surprisingly good! :)
I've never tried using a silhouette before ~ just the blender pen transfer method.
    Merry, merry,

  2. Neat signs, Lynn! I have some Christmas ones pinned but they will have to wait until next year. I did one for my son-in-law with the vinyl letters {that I bought}, but I like the idea of the stencil way to be able to sand. You got a perfect vintage looking Vintage sign pulling the letters off.

  3. Oh, Lynn, I always love signs and yours are great! I really love the faded chippiness of the last one! (A happy accident :)

  4. Bardzo pomysłowe, Lynn, ja tymczasem składam Tobie i Twojemu mężowi Wesołych Świąt!!!

  5. Love these Lynn. That last one is awesome. What a beautiful outcome. Merry Christmas.

  6. Love your signs, Lynn! I'd love to have a silhouette to help make all the signs I've been Pinning! I especially like the frosty look of the last sign. It looks like it's been hanging outside in our sub-zero temps! Your lighted wreath and garland look festive and welcoming on the front of your house. I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas!

  7. Love your signs, I have several but running out of room.. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Blessings for the New Year. I look forward to the New Year with you!

  8. Love the signs, Lynn. Me too love the last one.

Wish you and yours a beautiful Christmas

  9. Love. LOVE the chippy happiness of your signs!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

  10. I just love the Vintage Christmas one Lynn! That font is perfect, wish I had that one, I have the cricut. How did you get the letters to line up so well and straight?
    Hugs, Lynnie

  11. I really like these signs. Merry Christmas and a fabulous New Year.

  12. Hi Lynn
Love your signs and the last one is so charming. Looks like you are having fun. Wishing you a Merry Christmas!

  13. How great the vintage letters left such a cool-looking reminder...serendipity.
    Merry Christmas, Lynn.

  14. love your you recommend the silhouette? I am thinking that will be my big purchase this next year...
have a wonderful "white" Christmas my dear! Aimee

    1. aimee, i've had a cricut and the silhouette, and i love the silhouette--gave away my cricut. it's way easier to use, and the designs are so much cheaper than cricut's. and you only buy designs that you want, --which you just download from silhouettes site. instant gratification:) i even like silhouette's design program better:) cricut's cartridges, books, and overlays take up alot of space, and trying to remember which cartridge that one design you want to cut is--maddening. well, i guess you can tell, i like silhouette:) hope that helps!

  15. Love it all! Merry Christams Lynn!

  16. Evening Lynn, You are so talented! I love signs and that last "vintage" one turned out perfect!! Thank you for the SWEET mention! Christmas Blessings to you! Roxie

  17. Merry Christmas, Lynn! Love the weathered vintage sign:)

  18. These signs are fantastic~~~the VINTAGE one turned out sweet! Merry Christmas...

  19. I have some birthday money and I'm thinking of investing in a Silhouette, are you happy with yours ?
Making signs like these are just the kind of things I want to do. I love the way yours have turned out, especially the last one, a happy accident indeed !
Have a wonderful Christmas Lynn, to you and Mr. Shabby Story.
(Just seen your answer above, thanks for the info on the silhouette)

  20. Love the image the reverse made! Unexpected pleasures!!!

  21. Not perfect is how we like it right? I love the large sign and the unexpected surprise is fabulous! Merry Christmas!

  22. Stunning projects. I just love that vintage sign!

  23. I like to try different ways to make signs, too. Happy New Year!
