happy valentine’s day…

I don’t have anything for vday, so, I’m showing you how I made these roses.  they can be used on cards, quilts, clothing, scarves, headbands, pillows—you can even frame them.

the dark pink rose is on a muslin bag, and the light pink is on a lace scarf.

to make this rose: with thread, make a star shape.  then, just weave the ribbon over and under repeatedly, until the star is filled.  the bigger the star, the bigger the rose.

for the smooth look below, use silk ribbon.  for the crinkled look, I use seam binding that I hand dyed.

I found the instructions in this book, which I found at a 2nd hand book store.

if you’d like to try these roses, here’s a great youtube video showing all the steps.

have a great valentine’s day, everyone!

picture fun…

I’m probably the last to know about the waterlogue app, but, its so much fun, I had to post about it.

I was reading jane’s blog and she took a great picture of herself and turned it into a watercolor using this app.  it works with my iphone and costs $2.99.

here are some pics I ran through the app.  the app has several filters and adjustments, too.

rose oil painting…

I love rose oil paintings, but, not the prices.   below, is my first try of painting roses in oil.  it has lots of problems, but, for the first try, I’m ok with it, just need tons of practice.

I’ve been busy, not with projects or decorating, but, with whooping cough.  you might consider a booster for whooping cough—trust me, you don’t want to go through that. 8 weeks later, my vocal cords still don’t work.

and I no more got back to normal,—bailey damaged her aclSad smile she’s on rest and meds for now, but, will probably need surgery…

hope your new year is going better and have a great weekend!
